“Don’t Play The Race Card With Me! 9 Out of The 10 Guys I F*** is Black!”

Character of The Month: Mullins, The Heat (2013)

My rule for everything in life is to try every thing at least 3 times before judging it.  (I’ll explain my 3 times rule another time).  This is the first time I have watched this film and I found it hilarious!  Admittedly I’m having a blue month so I may be easily pleased…. so although I haven’t watched this film 3 times I would still recommend it.  The Heat had me in stitches from the very start.  I love the character Mullins played by Melissa McCarthy.

Favourite Character: Mullins played by Melissa McCarthy

Best Line: “Don’t play the race card with me!  9 out of the 10 guys I f*** is black!”

The Usual Suspects: Keyser Söze – Brilliant Film

The Usual Suspects – Kevin Spacey at His Best

This was the scene I was watching when I decided The Usual Suspects would be one of best movies I had ever seen.

Hungarian smugglers invade Keyser Söze’s house while he is away.  When he returns he witnesses a man raping his wife and holding his children hostage.  They kill one of his children and demand that he give his business to them. Instead, Söze kills his own family and all but one of the Hungarians so that the spared attacker can tell the Mafia what had happened. Once his family is buried, Söze goes after the mob and kills the mobsters’ families, friends, and even people who owe them money. He then goes underground never again doing business in person.

Please Don’t Park Your Camel Toe There! MUA Faux Pas!

Please Don’t Park Your Camel Toe There! MUA Faux Pas!

Camels

My very first written thought!  (Written thought as opposed to blog – I just don’t like the word blog).

I was at a shoot the other day when I was suddenly violated by my MUA (make-up artist)!  Yes – violated by my female MUA!  This had happened on a previous occasion with another MUA but I assumed it was a one-off accident – but I was wrong.  As she carelessly manoeuvered around me with her foundation brush she suddenly paused, with my leg between her legs she decided to park her camel toe on top of my knee.  She did not sit on my knee with her bottom, she simply parked her camel toe on my knee whilst leaning towards my face with her makeup brush.  (I use the term camel toe as she was wearing very revealing bottoms which indeed did display her toe).  She remained there for a few moments.  It was uncomfortable.  When I finally plucked up the courage to say something she moved away.  Throughout the shoot she would reapply my make-up and again park her camel toe there – it was long enough for me to notice but not long enough that I had the guts to mention it – I think she may have had an itch there which she was trying to disguise as bodily contact caused by an occupational hazard.  I tried to move around uncomfortably, cough, but she appeared unaware.  Is there a polite way to ask a lady to not park their camel toe on you without causing extreme embarrassment to both parties?  Probably not.  I refuse to name the MUAs in question but please, please, if you are an MUA and you are doing my make-up, please, please do not park your camel toe on me….  it is just plain weird….  =(

Thank you to all the other MUAs who applied my makeup without parking your camel toe on me =)

How to Distinguish the Good MUAs from the Not-So Good Ones!

Good MUAs

  •  Always carry mints – good MUAs are aware that they work in close proximity to their clients face and therefore bad breath is simply unacceptable.
  • Always have clean hands and carry anti-bacterial hand gel – good MUAs do not want to ruin your make-up or cause acne breakouts (caused by the millions of bacteria which are all over hands).
  • Always carry straws for their clients – we need to drink!  Obviously straws minimise the need to re-apply lipstick.

Bad MUAs:

  • Park their camel toe on your knee or other body parts.  It is unacceptable to park your camel toe on a client.
  • Treat your head like a mannequin – wreckless grabbing of a person’s chin or the sudden jerking of a person’s head is not pleasant.  How would you like it if I man handled your head like a football?!

Steamed Scallops with Ginger and Spring Onion

Makes: 6 scallops
Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 8 – 12 minutes

Ingredients

  • 6 scallops in the shell
  • 1 spring onion
  • 1 inch of ginger
  • 2 tablespoons of light soya sauce
  • 1 small birdseye red chilli
  • 1 teaspoon of sesame oil

Cooking

  1. Turn your steamer on
  2. Thinly slice the spring onion and ginger into 1mm thick sticks
  3. Sprinkle the ginger and spring onion onto the scallops
  4. Steam the scallops for 8 -12 minutes (depending on the size

Making the Sauce

  1. Finely chop the chilli
  2. In a bowl mix the chilli, soya sauce and sesame oil
  3. Serve each scallop with less than a teaspoon of sauce

Tips

Spring onion – Instead of using a knife try using scissors to create thin slices of spring onion
Coriander – Add a tablespoon of chopped coriander in the sauce for that extra fresh taste!
Ginger – many people I know recommend freezing ginger. I find frozen ginger a good back up but not ideal for this recipe as de-frosted ginger is often soft and moist therefore making it harder to slice into thin pieces.
